Christy Mann Somatics

Hi, I'm Christy

I believe every one of us adapts to life's challenges. Our nervous systems learn to protect us, and sometimes those protective patterns remain long after the stressor has passed. The good news is that our body also holds an extraordinary capacity for regulation, resilience, and change.

I am a Somatic Stress Release Practitioner, and certified in developmental trauma. I support people in understanding and working with their nervous system rather than against it, blending somatic stress release with a developmental trauma-informed perspective, when appropriate.

I hold both a Bachelor's and Honours degree in Psychology, completed in South Africa, where I also volunteered at a residential home supporting people living with severe mental health conditions. I am also a certified Ashtanga Yoga instructor.

My work is deeply informed by my professional training, and equally infused with my own lived experience. I know what it means to live in a body carrying stress, and I know the profound shifts that become possible when we learn to listen with compassion. I know that healing isn't about becoming someone different; it's about returning to the parts of ourselves that have always been whole beneath the layers of protection we've developed to survive.

My intention is to create spaces where people feel safe enough to slow down, become curious about their patterns, and gently release the stress their bodies have been carrying.

I don't believe this work is only for people in crisis. I believe it is for anyone who wants to understand themselves more deeply, cultivate a more resilient nervous system, and experience greater presence, connection, and freedom in their life.

Whether you're navigating chronic stress, burnout, the effects of developmental trauma, or simply seeking a deeper relationship with yourself, you are welcome here.

Working with me can look like

Dialogue

You do not have to share your story, though I hold space for whatever may come up. Dialogue is for clarification as well as a way to deepen into your experience.

Movement and Sounding

Our sessions can, and often do, involve movement at micro and macro levels. Movement and sound are our primal forms of release and expression, and are often key at moving things through.

Touch

This may include fascia release, and body repatterning, as well as other forms of consented hands-on work to help add containment and support with moving into the layers of your specific experience.

Repatterning

This might be include play, providing what was missing in an experience or time period of your life, or re-experiencing something in a safe enough environment - allowing your nervous system to have a new, integrated experience.

meeting

you where you are

You may notice I don't have a social media presence...

This is a conscious choice, and one that comes from the same place I approach my work: an understanding of the nervous system, and a commitment to living in a way that feels authentic and aligned for me.

Our nervous systems are continuously responding to our environment. The amount of information we receive, the frequency of interruption, the pace at which we move between stimuli, and the demands placed on our attention can all influence our capacity for regulation, rest, resilience, and presence.

I found that social media did not support the way I wanted to live and work. The continual flow of information, images, opinions and notifications created a level of stimulation that I no longer wanted to have as part of my everyday environment. So I made the decision to step away. This is not a statement that social media is inherently harmful, nor is it a recommendation that others should make the same choice. Different nervous systems respond differently to different environments, and what matters is developing enough awareness to recognise what supports your own capacity for regulation, connection and well-being.
For me, not being on social media is part of that awareness.

It also reflects how I choose to work with my clients.

I am not interested in building a large audience or maintaining a constant online presence. My practice is intentionally relational and individual. When you come to work with me, my attention is directed towards you - your experience, your needs and what is unfolding for you. I don't work by speaking to the masses. I work with the person who is sitting in front of me.

That distinction matters to me.

In a world where attention is increasingly fragmented, I value depth over reach, presence over visibility, and meaningful working relationships over constant communication. My decision to remain outside of social media is therefore not separate from my work. It is an extension of it.

My work is about connection, awareness, presence and the nervous system. It feels important to me that the way I live and communicate reflects those values.
So, if you were looking for me on social media, you won’t find me there.

You will find me here - and, if we work together, you will have my full attention.
